To help maximise your income, our money advisors will talk to you about your circumstances and assist you with applying for any benefits and income you are able to claim. Some benefits affect each other, so it is important to check how your money could be affected overall if you make any claims.
Many benefits cannot be backdated, and can only start from when your claim is made, so it is important to claim quickly.
Some benefits can make you eligible for other help, such as grants and discounts so you could be much better off by making a claim.

We helped a gentleman who got in touch regarding his accrued Council Tax Debt of £3,000.
Our advisor noticed that the customer hadn’t received Single Person Discount (SPD) on his account since his daughter moved out 8 years ago. The advisor assisted him to make the claim for SPD and he was awarded £2,400. The customer then made an agreement for £50 a month to clear the remaining £600.
The customer was unaware that he could claim the discount and was very grateful to the Money Advice Team for the support.
