A piggy bank with scattered coins

Child Trust Funds were introduced by the UK Government in 2005. Accounts were opened for almost 6 million children born in the UK between 1 September 2002 and 2 January 2011. Welsh Government provided a level of top up to some of these funds. Nearly half of Child Trust Funds in Wales remain unclaimed. Nearly half of young people who are now eligible (18 +) to access their savings haven’t done so, many are not aware they have a Child Trust Fund account.
