Due to the rising costs of living, Welsh Government created a scheme to help with expenses. The one-off payment of £150 is per household, not per person.
The eligibility for the main scheme is:
- You are liable for council tax on a band A-D property which you were living in as your main home on 15th February 2022
- You were living in band E property on 15th February 2022 which had a disability adaptation band reduction.
- You were living In any band and in receipt of Council Tax Reduction (CTR) on 15th February 2022.

Further details of Cardiff Council’s discretionary part of the scheme will be announced shortly.
Payments
If you are in one of these groups and pay your council tax by direct debit, or you had a Winter Fuel Support Payment, we have been able to make payments automatically in most cases.
If not, we are currently sending letters inviting you to apply. You will need your council tax account number and the unique code on your letter to apply.
